Peposting of commissoned art
It seemed like an easy case for our heroine. The girls left a trail a mile wide, even a blind rookie should have been able to follow it. Easy money for our detective.
But the pros that jumped her soon after investigating the grounds had other ideas. And unfortunately the mad scientist running the show had read the Evil Overlord handbook. So he was more than ready to write off the current group of subjects (leaving them alive to further delay the authorities even though they knew nothing of importance) in the other stalls, and use all avalable time to relocate and simply start over. A delay at worst, and minor setback to his financial plans.
Still, he had a little time and she had worked so hard to find out to find them. So our detective got a quick sample of what happened to the missing girls and the local constables got a major headache (and further delay) to greet them when they finally obtained a warrent to strom the long abandoned property.
